Crochet Pattern: Raindrops Square

Here’s the newest addition to my ever growing collection of textured rainbow pieces! Meet the ‘Raindrops square’- a square packed with texture and colour!

square 1

Like the rest of the pieces in the ‘series’, this square is worked in a similar way and is relatively simple! 🙂

You can find the tutorials for the other two pieces here:

What you’ll need:

– DK/8ply yarn

I’ve used Spotlight’s 4 Seasons Flinders Yarn in colours: Snow (Colour A), Deep purple (Colour B), Aqua (Colour C), Lime (Colour D), Canary (Colour E), Tangerine (Colour F) and Chilli (Colour G).

More information about this colourway can be found in this post.

– 3.5 mm crochet hook (or hook of your choice- if your square starts to curl use a bigger hook)

– Scissors

– Tapestry Needle

THIS DESIGN USES US CROCHET TERMS

ABBREVIATIONS

– st(s) stitch(es)
– rnd round
– ch chain
– sc single crochet
– dc double crochet
– slst slip stitch
– ch-space chain space

– ps (5 DC) popcorn stitch
Make 5 dc stitches in same st. Take loop off hook and insert from front to back into first dc. Place dropped loop on hook and pull through first dc st. Chain 1 to finish.

Pattern notes

– Apart from Rnds 1 & 8, you’ll be working with two colours at a time. If you’re unfamiliar with working with this method (tapestry crochet), I suggest you check this great resource out!

– I’ve indicated the yarn being used by the colour of the text. The black font is Colour A (white/snow), which you will use in all 8 rounds.

– When working a double crochet into a Popcorn stitch, work your stitch into the chain.

– Try to keep your tension as consistent as possible to prevent the second yarn peeking through stitches.
